About UNIBEN JUPEB Programme
The University of Benin’s Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) Program offers students an opportunity to obtain a certificate that enables direct entry admission into 200-level degree programs at the University and other JUPEB-affiliated institutions in Nigeria and abroad. The program recognizes qualifications such as the Advanced Level GCE, Old Higher School Certificate (HSC), or IJMB as equivalent to the JUPEB diploma.
Upon acceptance into the program, each student will commence an intensive academic schedule consisting of three subject combinations relevant to their preferred field of study. These subjects are designated with course numbers 001, 002, 003, and 004, resulting in a total of twelve courses to be completed by the end of the program, with six courses per semester.
Additionally, students are required to take at least two general studies courses, one per semester. Examinations are conducted for each course at the end of each semester. The overall results of all courses at the end of the second semester determine the letter grade (A, B, C, D, E, or F) assigned to each subject. The general studies courses chosen align with the student’s field of study.
In addition to passing the required JUPEB examination to obtain the Direct Entry Certificates, each student must fulfill all admission requirements specified by their chosen department and faculty in order to be admitted to the University of Benin or any other JUPEB-affiliated institution.
