The manner in which Pope Benedict XVI, Emeritus, will be buried on Thursday has been made public by the Vatican.
Goldennewsng reports that the information was posted to its verified Twitter handle in a post.
According to Vatican tradition, the Pope Emeritus’s coffin was closed on Wednesday.
Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI was born Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger on April 16, 1927, in Marktl, Southeastern Germany, and passed away on December 31, 2022. He had just turned 95. He had experienced a sudden deterioration in his health prior to his passing.
“During a ceremony on Wednesday evening, the coffin of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was sealed. A “rogito” that summed up the highlights of the Pope Emeritus’s papacy and the Pope Emeritus’ pallia were also placed inside the casket, according to custom.
“After the Requiem Mass, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s coffin will be taken through the Basilica to the Vatican crypt, where it will be buried in John Paul II’s first tomb.
A portion of the statement stated, “He will be buried in the traditional triple coffin, with caskets made of cypress wood, zinc, and oak.”
