This online news platform understands that the accident occurred in the Ojuelegba area of the state on Sunday afternoon. It was gathered that the commercial bus was loading passengers under the bridge when the truck carrying a 20ft container suddenly fell on it.

Speaking on the Ojuelegba bridge accident, witnesses claimed that the bus was loaded to capacity, adding that an unspecified amount of passengers sustained varying injuries.

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary (PS) of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said those killed included four men, three women, and two children.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the Permanent Secretary said a woman was rescued alive, adding that a preliminary investigation revealed that the truck lost control and fell on the side of the bridge.

“After suspending the container load with the aid of the Agency’s forklift and cutting off the top of the bus with light rescue equipment, a single adult woman was extricated alive and taken to the trauma centre.

“Final casualty count is nine fatalities comprising four adult males, three adult females, a boy child, and a girl child.”

“The agency’s heavy-duty Goliath and teams from Onipanu and Cappa are on the ground. The agency’s Ambulance, LASG FIRE, FED FIRE, LASTMA, and Nigeria Police have been working on this situation which is now concluded.

“Further investigation to be carried out by the Nigeria Police on the removal of the barriers on the bridge aimed at preventing trucks from ascending,” he said.
