Wema Bank has begun activating accounts for beneficiaries of the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP), sparking renewed hope among Nigerian youths awaiting disbursement.

On August 15, 2025, reports started circulating online as several applicants shared SMS notifications confirming that their YEIDEP-linked Wema Bank accounts had been created. For many who have waited in uncertainty, this development suggests the much-delayed disbursement process may finally be underway.

Months of Delays and Uncertainty

The programme has experienced multiple postponements, leaving applicants frustrated. Batch A beneficiaries were initially told to expect payment between July 1 and July 31, 2025, before another notice shifted the date to October 20–30, 2025.

However, no official confirmation followed from YEIDEP or the federal government, fueling doubts about the programme’s progress.

Now, with Wema Bank directly issuing account numbers to applicants, confidence is gradually returning that the initiative has not been abandoned.

Social Media Reactions

Screenshots of the SMS are spreading quickly across Facebook, WhatsApp, and X (Twitter), with beneficiaries celebrating the update.

The viral message reads:
“Congrats! Your YEIDEP application is complete, and your Wema account (number) is active. Stay tuned for more info.”

For many young Nigerians, the update is seen as a long-awaited breakthrough after months of silence.

What Comes Next?

An earlier, unofficial circular suggested beneficiaries’ details would be collected between September 1 and 10, 2025, followed by further engagement from September 11 to October 11, 2025. While this timeline has not been formally confirmed, Wema Bank’s move indicates that preparations are advancing.

Other partner banks are also expected to begin account activations in the coming weeks.

Warning Against Fraudsters

Applicants are strongly advised not to pay anyone to access their YEIDEP benefits. Scammers may exploit the situation as SMS confirmations go viral, posing as officials.

Beneficiaries should rely only on verified updates from Wema Bank and official YEIDEP communication channels.

About YEIDEP

The Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalization Programme was designed to empower young Nigerians with financial support, training, and opportunities to improve their livelihoods. Each new development, whether through banks or unofficial circulars, generates intense public interest because of the programme’s potential impact on unemployment and youth empowerment.
