Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun the Nigerian music superstar popularly called Wizkid, has made history by becoming the first African artiste to win an award at the 50th American Music Awards (AMAs).
GoldenNewsNg reports that He won the Favorite Afrobeats Artiste award at the AMAs which held on Monday, November 21 at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles.
The Bad To Me crooner competed with Nigerian counterparts, Burna Boy, Tems, Ckay and Fireboy DML.
The American Music Awards is offered in recognition of the most popular artistes and music within the eligibility period of September 24, 2021, through September 22, 2022.
Wizkid was congratulated in a post on the official Twitter page of the AMAs, writing;

Wizkid’s Essence featuring Tems also bagged an award for the Favorite R&B song category, which has American singers, Beyonce and Sza.
The other songs nominated in the category include Beyonce’s “BREAK MY SOUL”, Muni Long with “Hrs And Hrs”, Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak) “Smokin Out The Window” and SZA “I Hate U”
