According to Zamfara State Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, there are approximately 169 ghost doctors receiving monthly salaries and allowances.
Goldennewsng reports that In his country home in Maradun town, which is part of the state’s Maradun Local Government Area, the governor told reporters about this, saying that the ghost doctors were holding up the payment of salaries and allowances to health workers.
He claimed that his government had been holding a series of meetings with the state’s Labour leaders about getting rid of phantom doctors and nurses in the health care industry.
Following the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage, he guaranteed that his administration did not intend to lay off any genuine state employees.
On Friday, in response to questions from journalists, the Governor stated that his government and Labour leaders have been meeting a number of times to discuss productivity.
He claims that he expects the State’s civil servants to always justify their compensation.
He continued, “I know the pains if my salary and allowances were not paid because I was a civil servant.”
In addition, he stated that a significant portion of the small monthly allocation to the State from the federation account was being used to pay civil servants salaries and allowances.
However, the Governor praised the state’s labor leaders for their mature and professional approach to the N30,000 minimum wage issue, noting that there has been no animosity between the government and organized labor since he took office in 2019.
