The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) primary election for Imo West senatorial candidate Hon. Jones Onyerere in the February National Assembly election was invalidated by the Supreme Court on Friday in Abuja.
Goldennewsng reports that the primary election was declared invalid by the Supreme Court on the grounds that it was held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, rather than Orlu, the Imo West senatorial capital.
In his ruling on Hon. Nnamdi Ezeani’s appeal, Justice Emmanuel Agim stated that the PDP had committed a serious violation of Section 87(9) of the Electoral Act by holding the primary election at a location that was not required by law.
Due to PDP’s failure to submit a candidate within the stipulated time frame, the Apex Court determined that the party would not participate in the senatorial election the following month.
