Over three thousand five hundred members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have been received by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Goldennewsng reports that Governor Buni, accompanied by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, greeted the dozens of defectors in Damaturu and expressed delight at the significant defeat suffered by the state’s opposition parties. However, he promised the newcomers equal rights and opportunities, stating that the APC supports a united Nigeria.
In the meantime, Mohammed Gadaka, the Chairman of the State APC, promised the new members that the ruling party would include them in all of its activities.
Gadaka commended them and urged them to support the state’s current administration’s policies and programs.
However, as APC’s doors are always open, he wooed loyalists, stalwarts, and chieftains from opposition parties who are willing to defect.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Goni Abdullahi Baban Gomna and Umar Ali stated that their decision to defect was motivated by the impressive performance of the Mai Mala Buni-led administration over the past three and a half years.
The State Deputy Governor and the State Party Chairman, Mohammad Gadaka, presented APC flags to the defectors, which was the event’s defining moment.
