The most powerful Igbo cultural and social organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has praised Olusegun Obasanjo.
Goldennewsng reports that the group praised former President Olusegun Obasanjo for supporting Mr. Peter Obi, the candidate for president of the Labour Party.
Ohanaeze stated that Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi over Atiku Abubakar, his former vice president, speaks volumes.
Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group’s Secretary-General, said this in a statement.
He praised Obasanjo for “standing for equity and justice as relates to our stand that it is the turn of a Southerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.” Obasanjo was the candidate for the position.
We have also stated that Atiku’s ambition is detrimental to Nigeria’s unity, and his former boss’s decision supports our position. We recommend that he quit and support a Southerner. There is no reason why Buhari should cede power to a third Fulani.
He also urged those responsible for killings in the Southeast to put their weapons down for the New Year.
“It is no longer news that the routine ghost Mondays, also known as Monday sit-at-home, have cost Ndigbo billions of Naira in addition to wanton killings.
“In 2023, Igbos must put an end to the violent agitation that was started and the Fulani herdsmen’s killing spree.
“To put an end to the difficulties caused by insecurity in the Southeast, it is time to pursue the criminals and their sponsors. He added, “We appeal to the Federal Government to initiate plans for Simon Ifeanyi Njoku Ekpa’s arrest.”
