…Says those who participated in the Congress are PDP’s enemies
Leader of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction in Niger State and former Governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has described the state congress of the held last week won by Barrister Tanko Beji as a sham, illegal and absurd.
Aliyu who in a statement signed by his Director, Media and Communications Bitrus Bala said the Congress held by a faction of the PDP in the State and some North central leadership of the party holds no water.
The former Governor was besieged by the party loyalists and admirers as he arrived Paiko area of the state from Abuja.
Babangida Aliyu who later addressed the jubilant crowd of party supporters in his house, told the party members to stay calm and refuse to be intimidated by any biased minded person a in the party.
Speaking on the state party congress held by a faction of the party members in the state penultimate week, Aliyu said it held in liaison with a bought over North central leadership of the party, adding that the National Working Committee of the PDP was taken aback by the illegality and brazen abuse of the rule of law by some desperate politicians.
While calming all agitated and restive minds over what was done by a selected group, Dr Aliyu insisted that what was done in Niger PDP was absurd and totally wrong.
He said those who thought that they could seize the realm of the party’s executives in the state by whipping ethnic sentiments and displaying other forms of bigotry, would, in no distant time, be placed in their deserved positions.
He, therefore, appealed to genuine members of the party in the state to remain calm and await the unfolding events in the party as all necessary steps were in the works to give the party in the state a sense of order, sanity and diligence.
He admonished members of the party against leaving the PDP. “Those who organised and took part in that sham are enemies of our great party in Niger state. Please, don’t leave or abandon the PDP” he said.
He alleged that a band of disgruntled self seeking persons populated the faction who organised the congress without giving notice for the congress, and excluded others from the said congress. He wondered if democracy could be so manipulated and muzzled as was done by self seekers.
