Niger state Governor signs Water, Sewage Corporation, Legislative, other Bills into law

Niger state Governor ‘Sani Bello’  signs water, sewage corporation, Legislative Bills others into law.
Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has signed into law a bill passed by the Niger State House of Assembly to establish the Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation.
Niger State Governor  also signed into law two other bills which include the Niger State Tertiary Institutions Law and Legislative House (Powers and Privileges) Law 2019.
The law which was signed at the weekly State Executive Council meeting held Wednesday 20th May, 2020 at the Government House, Minna came into effect from the 25th of March, 2020.

The essence of the water and sewage corporation law is to achieve a developed water system in the State with the establishment of an independent, autonomous and commercially viable utility that ensures efficient and sustainable delivery of safe, clean drinking water to the people of Niger State.
The establishment of the Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation is the  climax of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) sponsored Effective Water Sanitation and Hygiene (E-WASH) program that seeks to give access to potable water to one hundred and fifty thousand households in six states in Nigeria including Niger.
The Governor also signed into law two other bills which include the Niger State Tertiary Institutions Law, with an operational date starting from the 8th of May 2019.
The new law increases the retirement age of Academic Staff of the State-owned tertiary institutions from 60 years to 65 years.
The academic staff that have attained 60 years before the commencement date of the law and in active service or employed after, shall enjoy the provision of the law.
The other bill assented to is the Legislative House (Powers and Privileges) Law 2019, which has operational date from 21st January 2020.

The law empowers the Legislators to invite any member of the public for questioning and that no criminal or civil proceeding shall be instituted against a member either in written or spoken at the plenary session or committee proceedings of the House.
