JAMB Cut Off Mark For Mechatronics Engineering

To study Mechatronics Engineering in any university in Nigeria, meeting the required JAMB Cut off Mark is one of the essential requirements. In a previous blog post about the Top 10 Most Competitive courses in JAMB, Engineering courses ranked seventh. While Mechatronics Engineering may not be as popular as other engineering courses like Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, it still presents a considerable level of competition for admission in Nigeria. Over three thousand students apply to study Mechatronics Engineering, but only a few hundred (approximately 600) are admitted by the eight universities currently offering this course.

Your chances of being admitted to study Mechatronics Engineering depend greatly on your JAMB score. However, there are two aspects to consider when discussing the JAMB Cut off Mark for Mechatronics Engineering. The first aspect is the cut off mark that allows you to proceed to the next stage, which is the Post UTME enrollment. The other aspect is the JAMB Cut off Mark for Mechatronics Engineering that guarantees admission to this course. These two aspects are not the same.

The cut off mark to qualify for the Post UTME stage is the same for all courses within a specific university. However, the JAMB Cut off Mark that ensures admission to study Mechatronics Engineering can vary among courses and universities. This distinction is important to understand.

Now, let’s delve into the details and provide you with the necessary information about the JAMB Cut off Mark and how to secure a place in the university of your choice. So, sit back, grab a glass of chilled water, and read through attentively as I guide you through this journey. Enjoy!

What is JAMB Cut off Mark?

As I explained in my previous article on “JAMB Cut off Mark For All Courses and Schools,” the term “CUT OFF MARK” refers to the minimum score required to be eligible for a particular program. In the context of JAMB Cut off Mark, it is the minimum score that JAMB candidates must achieve to qualify for the Post UTME of their chosen university.

Any student who scores below this cut off mark in JAMB cannot be admitted into any university in Nigeria, unless they explore alternative admission methods apart from JAMB.

Now that we understand the general concept of JAMB Cut off Mark, let’s focus on the JAMB Cut off Mark for Mechatronics Engineering.

JAMB Cut off Mark for Mechatronics Engineering

The JAMB Cut off Mark for Mechatronics Engineering to participate in the Post UTME is 200. However, some schools like Ambrose Alli University (AAU) may accept a minimum score of 180. But for most universities (excluding private universities), the minimum accepted score for Mechatronics Engineering is 200.

Please note:

Currently, only eight universities offer Mechatronics Engineering, and the general JAMB Cut off Mark to be eligible for the Post UTME is 200.

Polytechnics may accept a lower JAMB score for Mechatronics Engineering. So, if you scored below 200, you can consider applying to a polytechnic that offers this course.

The chances of being admitted to study Mechatronics Engineering with a JAMB score of 200 or 180 (depending on the university) are relatively low, around 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. However, this doesn’t mean that you cannot be admitted with a score of, let’s say, 210. Your JAMB score contributes only 50% to your admission requirements. The other 50% is determined by your performance in the Post UTME, O’ level exams (Waec/NECO/Nabteb), or both, depending on the university’s grading system.

Since JAMB constitutes 50% of your admission requirements, certain JAMB scores can increase your chances of gaining admission to around 70%.

JAMB Cut off Mark for Mechatronics Engineering that Guarantees Admission

A JAMB score of 250 or above is considered good enough to secure admission to study Mechatronics Engineering in any university in Nigeria. With a JAMB score of 250 and above, your chances of being admitted to study Mechatronics Engineering in the university of your choice are quite promising, around 70%.

I will explain the reasons for this when I discuss how schools calculate the aggregate score for admission shortly.

How to Calculate Your Aggregate Score for Mechatronics Engineering

Different universities (federal, state, and private) employ different methods to calculate the aggregate score for admission into the Department of Mechatronics Engineering. Some universities consider both your JAMB and Post UTME scores (e.g., the University of Benin), while others prioritize your JAMB and O’ level results (e.g., Ambrose Alli University). Some universities use a combination of JAMB, Post UTME, and O’ level results (e.g., the University of Lagos) to calculate the aggregate scores.

Regardless of the pattern your chosen university adopts for calculating the aggregate score, your JAMB score will always carry a significant weight of 50%. To calculate your average score for Mechatronics Engineering using your JAMB score:

  1. Divide your JAMB score by 8, and divide your Post UTME score by 2. Add these two results together to get your total average (applies to schools using both Post UTME and JAMB).
  2. Divide your JAMB score by 8, add 30% of your Post UTME score, and add 20% of your O’ level score (applies to schools using O’ level, Post UTME, and JAMB).
  3. Divide your JAMB score by 8 and add your O’ level score, making up the remaining 50%.

From the calculation methods mentioned above, it is evident that your JAMB score holds significant importance. Therefore, having a high JAMB score is crucial for studying competitive courses like Mechatronics Engineering.

If you score 250 in JAMB, dividing it by 8 gives you 31.25. The departmental cut off mark for Mechatronics Engineering is usually not less than 55 for most universities.

To achieve this departmental cut off mark with a JAMB score of 250, you only need to put in moderate effort.

In conclusion, a JAMB score of 250 and above is considered good enough to secure admission to study Mechatronics Engineering in any university in Nigeria.
