The selection process includes a shortlisting process, a written examination conducted internally, and an oral interview.

SCHOOL FEES:

The school fees for the School of Nursing NAUTH range from 150,000 to 200,000 Naira for fresh student nurses. This amount excludes acceptance fees.

ORIENTATION OF STUDENTS:

Upon admission to the school, an orientation program is organized during the first week of the students’ resumption. This program includes familiarization visits to places of interest and establishments in the Nnewi area, such as important industries and water works in Onitsha. The chief of the town is also involved in the orientation program. These visits help prepare the students for community experiences.

CAPPING (MATRICULATION) AND INDEXING:

The capping ceremony is held once a year for students who are successful in the first semester first-year examination. During this ceremony, successful students are dressed in the school uniform and given a cap with a line indicating their full admission to the school. After the ceremony, the students’ names are sent to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for registration and assignment of index numbers, which serve as their identity with the board.

TRANSFER OF STUDENTS:

Transfers into and out of the school are not allowed.

MEDICAL EXAMINATION/CERTIFICATION OF FITNESS:

Upon admission to the School of Nursing NAUTH, each student is expected to undergo a routine medical examination in the hospital. A letter of certification of fitness is issued by the staff doctor. BREAK IN TRAINING:

A student may be allowed to take a break from training for serious personal reasons, for a maximum period of 12 months from the day permission is granted. A married student who becomes pregnant is advised to take a break from training. However, students are reminded of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria regulations, which state that any continuous period of leave (other than vacation leave) exceeding 42 days constitutes a break in training, and the student must make up the missed time by joining the appropriate class for the rest of the course.
