Following the Edo 2020 Election , The governor of Rivers State, south-south Nigeria, Nyesom Wike, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to use the Edo State governorship election as a model for a refined electoral process.

GoldenNewsNg  reports that Governor Wike’s advice to the President on the Edo 2020 election was contained in a statement on Thursday by Paulinus Nsirim, Commissioner for Information.

The statement said the Rivers State governor who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Campaign Council Chairman, said the outcome of the election would provide hope for the general elections of 2023.

“Let every one that loves this country ensure that the Sept. 19, 2020 election is credible, free and fair. The Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), should show Nigerians that they can support credible elections.

“INEC should ensure that result sheets are not in the hands of individuals. Security Agencies should not whisk away collation officers and later bring them back with cooked results. Complete manipulation of the electoral process causes violence.”

The statement added that Governor Wike said no politician will cause violence if the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) do not compromise.

Governor Wike predicted a high turnout of voters on Saturday, adding that Edo people were eager to end godfatherism.

The Rivers State governor said money or intimidation would not stop voters from voting massively for the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, urging them to be vigilant and protect their votes.
