Data sharing on Glo involves you giving the receipt access to your existing data balance.  The process of sharing data on Glo is quite different from how it is on other networks like MTN, Airtel, and 9Mobile.

 

In the case of sharing data on Glo, the only available method is USSD.  There are two USSD codes you can use to share data on Glo with your friends and family and both USSD code methods will be explained below.

Method 1

 

  • On your dialer, dial *321#
  • Select the first option ‘Share Data.’
  • Next, enter the recipient’s Glo phone number and provide the amount of data you want to share with the person
  • You will receive a notification confirming the data sharing.

Method 2

 

  • On your dialer, dial *312#
  • Select the third option ‘Share Data’
  • You should see a new list of options. Select the first option ‘Share Data.’
  • Next, enter the recipient’s Glo phone number and provide the amount of data you want to share with the person
  • You will receive a notification confirming the data sharing is successful.

How to Gift Data on Glo

 

While Data Gifting and Sharing on Glo may look similar, they are two different processes.  Gifting data on Glo simply involves buying a data plan for the recipient with your airtime balance.  In this case, instead of sharing from your data balance, you are buying data for the recipient.

 

Here’s a step-by-step process on how to gift data on Glo:

 

  • On your dialer, dial *312#
  • Select the second option ‘Gift Data’
  • Select the data plan you want to buy for the recipient
  • Input the recipient’s Glo phone number
  • Reply with O to confirm that you want to gift the recipient the selected data plan
  • The price of the data plan will immediately be deducted from your airtime balance and the recipient will receive the data plan.

How to be Smarter with Your Data Usage

 

To be smarter with your data usage simply means to use your data effectively and find ways to conserve your data when needed.  Even while sharing your data with your friends and family, it’s very important that you use your data the right way so you can save money on the side.

 

  • Always turn off your data when not in use.
  • Turn off automatic updates for apps on your mobile device.
  • Use Wi-Fi whenever possible to save data.
  • Use data compression in your browser.
  • Delete all email messages that won’t be sent.
  • Send big files when connected to Wi-Fi.

How do I Check my Data Balance on Glo?

 

If you want to always stay connected, it is important that you check your data balance frequently so as not to exceed your data limit and to avoid incurring charges for your data usage.  Here is a list of ways you can check your data balance to be on the right track:

 

  • You can check your data balance on Glo through SMS. Send an SMS with the word ‘INFO’ to 127.
  • On your dialer, dial *777#. Select the “Current Plan or Subscription” option and then select “Manage Data” to see your data balance.
  • You can also visit the Glo official website to check for your data balance.

How to Transfer Data from Glo to Other Network

 

One of the questions people frequently ask concerning transferring data on Glo is whether it is possible to transfer from Glo to other networks. Unfortunately, there’s disappointment here.  There’s currently no option for Glo customers to transfer data to other networks.

 

Glo users can only share and transfer data to friends and family if they use Glo as well. However, we’ve already shown you how you can share data from Glo to Glo.  That way, everyone stays connected to the internet. Now, that brings us to the next discussion: How do I remove people from sharing?

How do I Remove People from Sharing?

 

Want to update your sharing list or particularly remove someone from your sharing list? You can dial the following USSD codes to get started:

 

  • On your dialer, dial *127*01*(friend’s phone number)#. For example, *127*01*0908XXXXXXX#.
  • You can also send ‘Remove (friend’s number) as an SMS to 127. For example, send Remove 0908XXXXXXX to 127.
  • In the same vein, to list people sharing your data subscription, simply dial *127*00# or send ‘List’ to 127.

What is the code for sharing data on Glo?

 

The USSS codes for sharing data on Glo are *321# and *312#.  Once you dial any of these codes on your dialer, select share data and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process as discussed above.

How many people can you share data with at a time?

 

Glo allows users to share their data plan with up to 5 Glo numbers at a time. This can be done using any of these USSD  codes (*321#, *312#), or by visiting the Glo Cafe.

What is the difference between data sharing and data gifting?

 

Data sharing is the process where you transfer data to someone from your already existing data balance.  In this case, their data expires whenever your data expires since it’s from the same data bundle.

 

On the other hand, data gifting involves you buying a new data plan for another Glo user using your airtime balance. In this case, you are not taking from your data balance but buying a new data plan for them.

How can I check my Glo data balance?

 

To check your Glo data balance, dial *312*4# on your phone dialer and a message carrying your data balance details will be sent to you.
