The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a program set up by the Nigerian government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation building and the development of the country. There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps program for one year. This is known as national service year. Ahmadu Ali served as the first Director-General of the NYSC until 1975. The incumbent Director-General is Shuaibu Ibrahim. Check out NYSC Portal.

NYSC Member Dies in Motor Accident

The picture below has been trending on the social media, calling for the identification of the Corps Member who died in a ghastly motor accident, and body deposited in a mortuary in Plateau State. To put the issue in proper perspective, Management hereby clarifies once again, having done so on 8th February, 2020 that the lady in question.

Thlama Stephen Wudiri, was indeed a NYSC Member serving in Gombe State. She was involved in a ghastly motor accident along Maiduguri Road which sadly claimed her life in 2016.

The post, devoid of emotional intelligence conveys an erroneous impression as though the accident just occurred.

The Scheme was grief-stricken, and felt highly diminished by Thlama’s demise. Her remains were interred over four years ago.
It is very pertinent to advise that people, as a matter of necessity should be circumspect in forwarding unverified posts that could cause offence and grief, such as the one trending.
May her soul continue to rest peacefully and blissfully in the Lord; and may God comfort her family.

My dear children, on behalf of the Management and Staff of the Scheme, I felicitate with you on the successful completion of National Service today.

Undeniably, the one year period of Service has exposed you to the core values of the NYSC Scheme, anchored on patriotism, integrity, efficiency, commitment and teamwork which are vital ingredients necessary for the unity and socio-economic development of the country which the Corps has espoused in the last 48 years.

It is with great pride that I commend you for your invaluable contributions to national development through personal and group Community Development Service projects, particularly in the spheres of Education, Health, Agriculture and other critical sectors of the national economy visible in the nooks and crannies of the country.
