The National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari.
Goldennewsng reports that Baba Ngelzarma said that despite the fact that pastoralists in the country supported President Buhari during his re-election campaign in 2019, the president had abandoned them.
This was said by Ngelzarma, who was the association’s secretary prior to his election as president, in an interview with journalists in Abuja on December 18. He claims that animal husbandry has been left out of the budget of the Buhari-led administration, which has prioritized other agricultural sectors.
“We endorsed him on the eve of the last election, which resulted in Buhari being elected to a second term. We showed the world that we are with him yet from there on, up till now as I address you, nothing has been finished.
The pastoralists have been abandoned by Buhari. The pastoralists have been abandoned by the government, regardless of Buhari or his lieutenants. While over N500 billion was spent on agronomy, almost nothing was spent on livestock over the past eight years.
Check all of the budgetary provisions made by the state government and the federal government. Surprises abound when you examine the livestock budget.
Animals are completely neglected.
He argued that the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP), despite the association’s approval, would not address pastoralist issues.
“Some states have accessed N3 billion and N6 billion in funding since the Buhari administration began implementing the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP).
It has been started in some states, and the one in Yola has begun, but we view it as a project that cannot address the issue.
How do you think a livestock center that can only hold 20,000 cows can solve the problem of the two million cows in Adamawa? However, as a role model, it’s fine; we appreciate it. The pastoralists will, at the very least, learn how to modernize animal husbandry. He stated
