UNIPORT POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) offers a range of postgraduate programs, and the admission requirements vary depending on the level of study. Below are the admission requirements for different categories of postgraduate programs at UNIPORT:

  1. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programs:
    • Applicants must have obtained a minimum of five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings at the O’ Level.
    • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or a Higher National Diploma (HND) from a recognized polytechnic with at least a Third Class or its equivalent.
    • Candidates with professional qualifications and relevant work experience may also be considered.
    • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate is required.
  2. Academic Master’s Degree Programs:
    • Applicants must have obtained a minimum of five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings at the O’ Level.
    • A first degree from the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized university in a relevant field with at least a Second Class (Lower Division).
    • Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 may also apply.
  3. Professional Master’s Degree Programs:
    • Applicants must have obtained a minimum of five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings at the O’ Level.
    • A first degree from the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized university in a relevant field with at least a Second Class (Lower Division).
    • Candidates with a Third Class degree or HND and a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 may also apply.
  4. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programs (Accounting and Business Administration only):
    • Applicants must have obtained a minimum of five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings at the O’ Level.
    • A first degree from the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized university in any relevant field with at least a Second Class (Lower Division).
    • A Master’s degree from the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized university in the proposed field of study with a minimum CGPA of 3.50.

Please note that candidates with a B.Sc, PGD, or HND are required to go through a Master’s degree program before applying for a Ph.D. program directly.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Applicants must submit photocopies of NYSC discharge/exemption certificates and all qualifying credentials, including O’ Level results.
  • Transcripts should be sent directly to the Secretary of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
  • The duration of the programs varies depending on the level of study (PGD, Masters, or Ph.D.). Please refer to the specific program for the duration details.
